The Betta Spenden, or Siamese
fighting fish, is a very popular aquarium fish,
however, the holding of the males in very small containers
should be discouraged. It's nickname is
well deserved. This tropical fish has been bred through the
years to make the males a very rich colorful beautiful addition
to your tank. Though the females are more drab in color, the
smaller, shorter finned ones can be kept in a community fish
tank with one male. Don't put males together. They will tear up
each others fins and maybe fight to the death. They don't like a
lot of water movement in the aquarium.
Betta Splendens / Siamese
Fighter / Siamese Fighting Fish Breeding:
The male will make a bubble nest
and, after spawning, guard the eggs until they hatch.
Since Betta fish come from Southeast
Asia, they hate our winters. They need a minimum of 75o.
Betta Fish prefer 80o. If you intend to breed them,
you should provide the 80o.
